Kitesurfing on Lake Como

For a summer kitesurfing spot in Europe, Lake Como is hard to beat. Surrounded by the towering peaks of the southern Alps, Lake Como is just 90 minutes from Milan, 3hrs from Zurich, and 4hrs from Geneva. The 162 square kilometre fresh-water lake provides unbeatable learning conditions, and also a perfect playground for more advanced kiters: There are plenty of launch spots around the lake, kitesurf shuttles for anyone looking to avoid a beach launch, and advanced lessons for those wanting to progress/learn something new.

Unlike the better-known lake Garda, Como is rarely too busy and in summer months over 90% of days bring kiteable wind.

Sound good? That’s because it is!

Check out the options for advanced kiters below, and if you have questions or need some advice then you can always get in touch. Between 10am-5pm we’re normally out on the lake teaching, so during these times it’s best to send an email.

We hope to see you here at the Lake!

Beach launch spots

There are a number of spots around the lake where you can launch from the beach. If you’re an independent rider (confident riding in most wind conditions, able to relaunch, and able to retrieve your own board, and able self-rescue) then they are a great option.

Not all of the launches are easy (often the beaches are narrow, and the wind can be a little gusty right in by the shore), but once you’re out on the water you’ll have smooth wind and huge amounts of space to play in.

Most spots have cafe/bar facilities.

Different spots work best at different times of day/in different wind conditions. For more information you can check out our spot guide.

Coaching sessions

Our coaching sessions have a maximum of 4 students, and each student has their own kite for the duration of the session so that you’re free to work on whatever skills it is you want to improve/learn. Some of the most popular options for our coaching sessions are below, but the options are endless, so if you don’t see what you want there, then just tell us what it is you want to work on.

  • Light wind kiting skills
  • Transitions & toeside riding
  • Freestyle twintip
  • Strapless surfboard
  • Freestyle strapless surfboard

Coaching sessions are suitable for those with IKO Level 3K/VDWS Level 5 and above.

Kite foil & wing foil

Kitesurfing is a continually evolving sport. There’s always something new to try and plenty of different ways for you to improve your skills, whatever your level.

If you spend any time at all watching kite videos, following kite accounts on social media, or reading kite magazines then you’ll know that in the last few years foiling has had a huge impact on the sport, and this year this has seen a further evolution with the introduction of the wing foil. Both disciplines are physical (prepare to be exhausted), technical, and a LOT of fun.

If you have great kite skills and are looking for the next challenge then get in touch now to book your lesson!

Kite shuttle services

There are several cheap kitesurf shuttle options on the Lake, but be aware that these are launch shuttles & not supervised kiting, so once your kite is launched then the responsibility is on you to get back to the land. Most shuttle providers will require you to take your mobile phone in an Aquapac so you can call them if you need a rescue. Kit rental and any assistance is normally at extra cost.

For your own safety we recommend only opting for a shuttle if you are truly independent (confident riding in most wind conditions, able to relaunch, and able to retrieve your own board), and that you are able self-rescue should you have a problem.
